HKYPAF Competition – Rules & Regulations

  • In all classes where an age requirement is stipulated, the governing date shall be 1 January 2025.
  • No restriction in nationality. Photocopy of identity documents such as identity card or passport must be attached for age verification.
  • Contestants can choose to participate in more than one entry, but not more than once in the same class number.
  • All pieces should be played without repeat, except for D.C. or D.S.
  • All competition repertoire need to be played from the first measure, not from the middle. During the performance, the jury may stop and ring the bell if they have their decision. This will not affect the result. Performances exceeding the allotted time limit will be disqualified regardless of the quality of performance.
  • In the Preliminary round and the Finals, the panel of jury has the right to terminate a performance when they feel appropriate. The decisions and results of the competition by the jury are final and indisputable.
  • The organizer reserves the right to disqualify contestants who fail to meet the requirements for competition or who violate the regulations.
  • No person or party who has not been authorized by the organizer may take photos, videos or make any kind of recordings at any session of the competitions. The copyrights of all audio and visual recordings of the competition are deemed the properties of the organizer.
  • Rules, regulations, awards and names of the jurors are subject to change without prior notice.
  • Competition piece(s) changes are allowed in final rounds.
  • Entry fee include: one class competition, certificate, medal or trophy.
  • Participants who are awarded the Gold Prize are eligible to participate in the international finals.

Terms and Conditions

  • All fees are non-refundable and must be paid in full upon submission. There will be no refunds for withdrawals after online application has been submitted.
  • Any amendments after submission (E.g. name/repertoire spelling error) will incur an administrative fee of RM 120.
  • The Jury may choose to
    (a) Listen to only a part of the program presented if they feel they have heard enough to make a judgement.
    (b) Withhold awards, as in line with international competitions, if the minimum points required are not met.
    (c) Award joint-prizes or choose winner in the event of a tie.
    (d) Refrain from providing a written commentary. Minimum points for each Round and Category as below:
  • Preliminary Round:
    Gold Prize: 85 points – 100 points
    Silver Prize: 80 points – 84 points
    Bronze Prize: 75 points – 79 points
    Unawarded – Below 74 points
  • Final Round:
    First, Second, Third, Fourth & Fifth Prize: 5 Highest Marks (and 85 or above) of each category
    Distinction Award: 75 points – 84 points
  • In the event that a member of the Jury presents his/her student* at the competition, the said Jury member is to recuse himself/herself from the Jury. The marks will be awarded only by the remaining Jury, and divided accordingly to obtain the average mark.
    *A current student is defined as having studied within the previous 12 months. Attending or performing at masterclasses does not apply for this rule.
  • A separate registration fee is applicable for participation in the finals.
  • The organizer reserves the right to combine or divide any age group category depending on the numbers of Participant in each category.
  • The organizer reserves the right to limit the total number of finalists selected for each category and to combine or divide categories based on the number of finalists in each.
  • The organizer reserves the right to limit the total number of prizes awarded for each of the categories and/or change the value and type of awards given at any time without prior-notice.
  • All participants and their accompanying members are responsible for their own expenses and no reimbursements of any kind will be given.
  • The HKYPAF Competition live rounds are open to the public. Participants are able to observe all competition classes.
  • ALL persons wishing to observe the live competition round (including parents, teachers, page turners) are required to purchase a pass.
  • The organizer shall have no liability in the event of illness and/or injury to persons, damage and/or theft of objects that may occur during the journey or while the competition is in progress.
  • The organizers have unrestricted rights to film, broadcast, photograph and record any part of the competitor’s participation including but not limited to rehearsals and competition performances. The Euroasia Association of Performing Arts and the Hong Kong Youth Performance Art and Development Association reserves all rights. The participant agrees that he/she waives any claim whatsoever to any financial reward arising from the distribution or use of any such recordings.
  • The rules of the application must be strictly adhered to and each supplementary document requested supplied.
  • By submitting the Application Form, which forms a part of the Rules & Regulations and Terms & Conditions of the HKYPAF Competition, the participant is deemed to agree and comply with this document.

Delivery of Certificates and Prizes – For Online Submission only

Certificates, Medals/Trophies/Mementos :

  • The Certificate, Silver/Bronze Medals and/or Mementos for the Online Preliminary Round will be sent out via courier to the registered shipping address after the Final Round.
  • Euroasia shall not be held responsible for failed deliveries or parcels lost.

Shipping Fees:

  • Included for Peninsular Malaysia. 
  • RM30 for Sabah/Sarawak.
  • International shipping fees are chargeable by Zone.
